NDIS functional capacity assessments (FCA)

Last checked against official sources:

A functional capacity assessment (FCA) describes how disability affects everyday activities. It is often written by an occupational therapist.

What an FCA usually covers

Daily living, mobility, communication, social and community participation, learning and self-care. Good reports describe what happens, how often, and what support is needed.

From recommendation to funding

A recommendation in an FCA is evidence. The NDIA still decides whether each support meets the reasonable and necessary criteria. That is why the link between need and recommendation matters.

Questions for your clinician

Ask how each recommendation connects to a functional need, and whether the hours or items are explained. Never ask anyone to write something that is not true.
